I was talking to a couple of nice Wiccan sisters about perceptions of what a Spell was. I asked them to explain to me how much of what I saw on TV and movies was realistic.
“What about the people who call me for a reading terrified to death that someone has put a jinx on them? Do you girls do that? Is that what spells are all about?”
“Well Annie, {they patiently explained}, the power of a spell is in the INTENT. Its the same as manifesting wealth,..you put the intent out there and and THAT’S what you hope to get back. Right? Really, take the word “Spell” away and you come up with much the same as “Manifesting” “Prayerful Intent” and “Meditation”.
OK……BUT WHAT ABOUT ALL THE RITUAL?
“What about all the ritual of the Catholic church Annie, swinging incense, chanting, kneeling and rising, …its a setting to place ones INTENT……to create the mood of respect as well as awe for church, God and Holy Ghost.”
“AND DON’T FORGET ANNIE……cooking a great meal with love, house cleaning for ORDER AND CLARITY, are creating a space for intention. All of those could be called a Spell.
Hmmmmm….so that guy that dumped me 13 years ago and blamed me for placing a spell on him when his life went into chaos, you’re saying that my unspoken intent was what he feared, and in that space of thought, he created his own disasters?
“Well of course Annie! And don’t forget Karma. REMEMBER! Every time a cook is in the kitchen preparing a meal for those they love, they are throwing the intention of ADORATION into their food. Why else can you can get a group of cooks all with the same ingredients, put them in a cooking show contest, and one stands out amongst all the others? That cooks intent is in the presence of CALM. The others are in a state of frenzy, panic or anxiety. “Calm” was the “spell” of the day, and the answer to success.”
“REMEMBER, there are good Christians and Jews, and there are good wiccans and bad. History is full of Holy men that led followers to death, despair and torture. And there are also bad Wiccans that practice cruelty. Alone or in a group, a coven is just another word for church or “the flock”. Its the INTENTIONS that create chaos or love within that group.”
So what your saying is that if I am feeling lazy and in the mind set to be left alone, I am in a sense, casting a spell of isolation. And when 9-11 shook us to our knees, it was America’s intention to NOT live in, or display fear, for the “Spell” {or intentions} of anothers’ hatred. We, in a sense, “cast a circle” of self protection. Right?
